Revisiting Sue’s succulent garden (June 2017)

Among the almost viewed posts on are the 2 on my friend Sue's forepart yard makeover. In the restrain of 2015, Sue too her married adult man replaced their forepart lawn alongside a thoughtful pattern consisting of 2 distinct areas: a world infinite anchored past times a golden pelting tree (Koelreuteria elegans) too featuring star jasmine, fortnight lily too variegated euonymus, too a someone courtyard alongside a large L-shaped succulent bed too a pergola.

This is what the finished projection looked similar inward May 2015. And this is what the succulent beds looked similar a twelvemonth later, inward Apr 2016.

Curious to discovery out what it looks similar now, inward early on June 2017? Scroll downwards to see!

The Echeveria 'Imbricata' convey doubled too tripled, both inward quantity too size. Many are blooming now.

Sue's succulent bed definitely has that undersea experience she was going for. (The inspiration were the succulent beds at the Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona del Mar, California.)

The found palette includes Echeveria 'Imbricata', Sedum 'Angelina', Sedum nussbaumeraniumSedum rubrotinctum, too equally cactus, cotyledons, agaves, too that beautiful Aloe vanbalenii you come across inward the photos inward a higher house too below.

Flowers of Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga 'Flavida'

Let's non forget the hanging baskets alongside fishbone cactus (Selenicereus anthonyanus), golden rat tail cactus (Cleistocactus winteri), string of pearls (Senecio rowleyanus), string of bananas (Senecio radicans) too burro tail (Sedum morganianum).

In the side past times side photograph you'll come across the shorter department of the L-shaped bed. Since it receives to a greater extent than sun, the Echeveria 'Imbricata' hither are smaller, less opened upwards too to a greater extent than dark-green instead of blue.

The signature plants inward this department include Agave americana 'Medio-picta alba', Yucca aloifolia 'Blue Boy' too a imperial Dyckia hybrid.

And lastly a few "bigger picture" photos of the 2 areas of the forepart yard. This is the courtyard inward forepart of the house:

On the left inward the photograph below is the "public" surface area that extends downwards to the sidewalk. This does order the courtyard quite a fleck of privacy fifty-fifty though it's fully accessible from the driveway.

Note on irrigation: The soil inward the succulent beds is pure decomposed granite, which ensures outstanding drainage. The plants are watered through buried Netafim driplines which deliver 2 gallons an hour. During the hottest parts of the summer, the drip irrigation runs 30-45 minutes twice a week. When daytime highs are below 90°F, Sue waters 45 minutes i time a week.
